Turning Lemons into Lemonade

Turning lemons into lemonade. It’s an expression that could be used to describe my vacation. I guess it fit.

Lemon number one was a flat tire before I even reached the toll road. After an hour and a half delay, and a good chunk of change, my perky Toyota Yaris was zipping along the highway, practically smiling at how good “she” Iooked with those new tires. I did eventually get to the airport, picked up my sister, and we enjoyed a great evening together.

Lemon number two came in the form of a phone call. As my sister and I made plans to head out for original Buffalo Wings after picking up our brother in the afternoon, we received the lemon call. Long security lines at the Orlando airport meant quite a few passengers missed their flights, our brother being among them. The outlook was bleak that he would make it in that night. Flights were full.

Not wanting Chris to feel any worse than he already did, we told him not to worry about us on our end, that we were flexible. And we were. We were two sisters together getting to talk to our hearts’ content. We laughed at how unstressed we felt—and we started turning our lemons into lemonade.

We brought smiles to our parents’ and our faces by making an unplanned visit as we waited for the undetermined time of arrival. God turned the impossible into the possible. All those ‘full’ flights suddenly had an extra seat for Chris. We had a great unplanned extra visit with our parents before picking up Chris around midnight. Those lemons made some great lemonade!

I guess we had enough lemonade to last the rest of the trip. No more lemons came our way. I had a great time bringing my siblings home for a whirlwind trip to see Matt and the boys, and then back to our parents’ home in Canada for a special get-together in honor of our parents’ 50th Wedding Anniversary!

Life is so much about our perspective, about accepting what God brings into our lives, and sometimes about turning lemons into lemonade.

What a great story! Love the plane seat – awesome! So glad you had instant lemonade…I think we’re making the fresh kind, you know, hand squeezed, then strained, then heat the water and add the sugar so the sugar is melted before it goes in, then and only then can we add the ice and enjoy it under a cool shade tree! LOL!!! But regardless how long it takes to make it – somewhere along the way it will be ready to drink and God will serve us our yummy lemonade. 😉

How true … God can turn our lemons into lemonade if we allow Him to be in control and accept what He gives us. The real hard part is sitting back and allowing Him to give us the lemonade instead of the original plan we had for that lemon.

So true, Chris. It’s all about accepting HIS plan for not only the lemons in our lives, but also for the good things that we don’t think need any changing! We need to continually be saying as Jesus did in the Garden of Gethsemane, “Not my will, but thine be done.”
