Facing Reality with Faith

“Many people think the answer to worry  is
to pretend there is nothing to worry about.
But the only way to deal with worry effectively
is to face reality and then choose
to face reality with faith.”
(Author unknown)

This was a quote a friend posted on Facebook. Simple, yet profound. There are times in life when there are legitimate worries, concerns, and fears. However, being faced with a legitimate worry doesn’t give us the license to worry. Likewise, being faced with a legitimate fear doesn’t give us the license to cave in to fear.

Yes, they are legitimate. No amount of pretending, no amount of putting on a good face, no amount of grinning and bearing it will make the circumstances disappear. Whether you like it or not, they are there and in your face. They have no departure date, no expiration date. There may appear to be no end in sight.

This is where the unknown author of the quote had it right. We choose to face reality with faith. We choose to face our worries and fears while holding tightly to the hand of our Lord and Savior. We choose to believe that the God who created and sustains the intricacies of the universe, the God who knows the numbers of hairs on our head, that He knows what He is doing. We choose to trust, to face reality with faith.
