Definitely Not the Norm

My Patriotic & Healthy-Looking Hubby! (Taken July 4, 2011)

I’ve never claimed to be normal. In fact, as a family we’ve come to acknowledge the fact that we’re probably a bit on the strange side.  What ‘normal’ person would come up with a statement that a trip to the oncologist with her husband would be a good way to decompress? Hmm… . Yes, a bit on the strange side!

But you know, I was right. It was a great way to decompress. A day with my hubby and a doctor’s visit that went well. Not a bad combination.

We’re at a very surreal stage. There is nothing else the doctors can do to help Matt with his pancreatic cancer, so the visit was more of a formality, along with the need to have his medi-port flushed out. He should be getting worse. But he’s not. Matt has been looking and feeling so good for the past while that we couldn’t see how they wouldn’t be impressed. And impressed they were. They pretty much smiled and shook their heads. He’s looking better than the last visit.

Of course, I just had to ask one question: “Is this normal?” The answer was pretty much an emphatic “Definitely NOT!” That being the case, our next visit isn’t for another two months. So yes, it was an encouragement of a day. We thank God for each day, week, and month that He gives us—while we continue to pray for even years!
